November kicked off with our club 5k time trial, the 40th anniversary of the Richard Burton 10k and the announcement of a brand new middle distance triathlon event. We certainly know how to start a month off in style!
Club 5k Time Trial (1st November)
A chilly, wet and windy evening saw another challenging time trial however it didn’t deter the superb athletes below. It was not only the elements that acted against us this evening but even the local roadworks couldn’t interrupt the event! We were delighted to see another set of PBs by many of our runners, well done to all!

Richard Burton 10k (40th Anniversary)
The local and one of the UK’s most challenging road races returned to Cwmafan, and we were met with the most incredible atmosphere and support, even in-between the rain showers! Firstly we would like to thank all the organisers and volunteers who helped make this event happen.
This was the final race of our running championships for 2022 and the turnout we had was incredible with over 150 of PTH athletes on the start line! We had some athletes taking on 10k for the first time and people absolutely smashing their 10k PBs and course PBs! We are so proud!
Inspirational club runner Ann Thomas was fantastic as always, coming first in her age category. Our senior women took home the 1st female team, where we had 3 of our women coming home in the top 10 and 9 altogether in the top 50, showing the strength in depth:
- Ffion Williams came in at 4th female
- Claire Walters came in at 7th female
- Sarah Howard came in at 10th female
Our men followed on from our ladies team and had an awesome 11 athletes in the top 50:
- Craig Merriman-Foley came in at 15th male
- Mikey Davies came in at 16th male
Each year the Richard Burton race get’s bigger and better and this year was exceptional with the 40th anniversary combined with our amazing club turnout and continued support to this incredible local community event. The town of Port Talbot should be extremely proud of the amazing community spirit that this day brings.
It was fantastic to see many young children and teenagers taking on the Kevin Webber Mini Miler and the many charities raising funds for good causes in tribute of some special people who have left a legacy in the town.
Parkruns
Although many were preparing for the big race, some members squeezed in some Parkruns with Swansea Bay, Gnoll, Porthcawl and Maesteg all having some PTH magic!
