Port Talbot Harriers is a friendly multisport club which caters for all abilities. We swim, we ride, and we run with the emphasis placed on having fun and meeting new people.

We cater for all abilities and all are welcome to our training sessions which start from 18.00 (for a 18.15 start). There is no pressure for newcomers who come for some taster sessions, however, after a few sessions we would be delighted if you chose to become a part of our fantastic club.

Multisport Sessions

Join our fully coached swim sessions, led by Welsh Triathlon trained coaches, every Tuesday and Thursday at Aberavon Leisure Centre. Please note, there is a charge for these sessions to cover pool hire. To book your place, complete your membership and join our PTH Members Facebook page using your membership number. Dive in and elevate your swimming with us! As a Port Talbot Harriers member, you also gain access to some of the best lakes for swimming during the summer months.

Running Sessions

We offer two types of running sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, both of which start at our clubhouse.

Tuesdays are speedwork based coached sessions ran by our Welsh Athletics trained coaches, whereby athletes are placed into groups based on their 5k times. Our speedwork sessions are based on an 8 week cycle, which ends with our club 5k Time Trial.

Thursdays are our tempo sessions, which are not coached. However, we all run as a group for a set period of time based on an out and back session (35mins, 40mins, 45mins). For example, a 40 minute tempo is 20 minutes out and 20 minutes back. During the winter months we head out towards Aberavon Beach and during the summer months we alternate between Aberavon Beach and The Quays. Tempo sessions are whatever you decide to make of them, but it does help build your endurance.

Weekend activities

Parkruns

Parkrun is a popular 5k run organised across the world in many cities and towns every Saturday at 9am (race start). Many of our club members run Parkruns every week. Local ones include Gnoll Parkrun, Swansea Bay Parkrun, Porthcawl Parkrun, Maesteg Parkrun and Sandy Water Parkrun. If you would like further information on Parkrun UK, please follow this link.

Other Activities

On the weekends, if there is no race, many of us head out for informal recovery runs, trail runs, long runs, swims and bike rides. Just ask in the weekly club sessions to find out more on what everyone is up to.

Cross Country

First claim members only can take part in Cross Country. We take part in two different Leagues: West Glamorgan League and Gwent Cross Country League. Please follow this link.

Throughout the year, members take part in various relay races, to include Cosmeston Relay and the Welsh Road Relay Championships. Details will be posted as and when the events are diarised. For information, please follow this link.
